Attitudes and the Weather

Depending on where you live, you might already be experiencing the chilly weather streaming across the United States. Here in Texas (or at least where I live) the cold weather hit early this morning. The cold weather made me think about the types of attitudes people might have when they step out into the brisk wind.
First, a person could approach the situation with a negative, pessimistic approach. One might curse the cold, or their numb fingers as they scrape the ice off of their window. Conversely, a person can approach the situation, no matter how unpleasant or grim it may seem, with a positive attitude. Perhaps this person is thankful for the changing seasons, or the beauty of the snow falling all around them. Maybe this person even looks for opportunities to help those suffering from the cold.
As Christians we should strive to approach all situations with the proper attitude. Does that mean Christians should always be cheery and merry as they go about their day? I do not think so. There is a vast difference between putting on a show and having the proper attitude. There are times when Christians need to show their anger or their distaste for things in the world. Consider Christ when He confronted the moneychangers who were making a mockery of the Temple of God in Matthew 21.
I think a key to having the proper Christian attitude in all situations is looking at each situation differently than those in the world. What do I mean? Christians should look at each situation they enter with the following thoughts: "How can I serve the Lord?" "How can I show God to others?" "How can I give praise to the Lord?" Entering every situation with that type of attitude will help Christians continually live their lives for the Lord.
As I have written about before, having the right attitude in situations is one of the things I constantly struggle with in my life. I tend to fall into a cycle of negative thoughts or frustration. Writing this article helps me refocus my attitude, so that I hopefully approach all situations with a good Christian attitude seeking to serve the Lord.
