The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints View of Family

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has its own view of what a family is. This is described in a proclamation to the world that was issued by the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles in 1995. Here is what it said: We, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. IN THE PREMORTAL REALM, spirit … Continue reading

FHE For Small Children-The Prexistence

This past Sunday, my 4 year old gave his very first talk in primary. I was so proud of him. I helped him prepare his talk by asking him a series of questions about what he knew about the earth since the theme was, “Heavenly Father created the Earth for His children”. He told me things like it is really big. It is in space. It has lots of different countries. It was really fun to find out what he knew about earth. I asked him what his favorite thing to do on earth was, and he replied, “Eat!” Very … Continue reading

Thankful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Today is Thanksgiving and while my family that is close is not celebrating until tomorrow I can’t help but sit down for a few minutes today and think about all the things I’m thankful for as it relates to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. First, and foremost, I am thankful that I have a loving Heavenly Father that sent his son, Jesus Christ to die for my sins. I don’t often reflect on that miracle, but I do try and be thankful for it everyday. But, when you think about it, it really is miraculous. To have Christ as my … Continue reading

Callings in the LDS Church

I have been thinking a lot about callings lately because of the recent changes in our ward. My husband finally received a calling this past week to be in the Sunday school presidency, and something tells me that a calling for me might be right around the corner. Probably because the Bishop asked my husband on Sunday what my first name is again. So, obviously, I think I am on his mind. Never a good place to be if you are trying to avoid a calling. But, I’m not. In fact, I have found that I feel a little lost … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Strengthening our Family

I love when simple family home evenings make the best ones. That is my goal by sharing this FHE with Small Children series as often as possible. This past Monday night, we had a family home evening where my kids really listened, the lesson was short, and everyone got to participate. We started out talking about our own family. I asked my kids the following questions: Who is in our family? Do you think we have a happy family? Do we want to make our family stronger? I then told them about The Family: A Proclamation to the World. Since … Continue reading

FHE with Small Children-Testimonies

On Sunday, we had a rare event in our ward. Three children bore their testimonies. In a ward with only about 15 children in it, this does not happen very often. It started me thinking and wondering if my children had heard the word testimony and if they knew what it meant. It made me wonder if they had one of their own? Remember, they are just 3 and 5 years old. So, I started off by reading a scriptures on testimony in D&C. I asked them if they had heard that word, and they had. But, when I asked … Continue reading

Insurance Blog Week in Review – Week of February 5-11, 2012

The Insurance Blog Week in Review gives you an easy way to “ketchup” on all the blogs that were posted this week. In a given week, there can be anywhere from twelve to fourteen different articles that appear on the Insurance Blog. Lately, news about insurance is intertwined with politics. This definitely makes things interesting! The Insurance Podcast Roundup for the week went up on February 6, 2012. Federal Government Says No to California’s Medi-Cal Co-Pays Governor Jerry Brown made a plan that required the low-income people who use Medi-Cal to pay a co-pay before they could be seen by … Continue reading

UCSF Might do Transplant for Navarro After All

After much public outrage, it seems that the University of California -San Francisco Medical Center (UCSF) may have agreed to preform the kidney transplant that Jesus Navarro needs. However, the hospital still wants proof that he can pay for the follow up care. The hospital says he was not denied specifically because he is in the United States illegally. Jesus Navarro is 35 years old. He has a wife, and a three year old daughter. He had been working, full time, at the Pacific Steel Foundry for fourteen years. He somehow managed to continue to work full time while in … Continue reading

Bill Maher, Tim Tebow, and Jesus

I don’t watch football, but I have more or less been forced to know who Tim Tebow is because everyone is talking about him. Plus, you can’t really surf the Internet without seeing someone tebowing. Tebowing is the act of dropping to one knee and praying thusly named such after Tim Tebow. As the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, Tebow performs this gesture to thank God for his success during games. And tebowing has taken off like crazy, with videos and photos of people tebowing popping up all over the Internet. But, this week, Bill Maher came under fire … Continue reading

I Hope They Call Me On a Mission

I served a full-time mission from 1998-2000. It was a wonderful 18 months of my life. Some days it seems so long ago, and other days, I wish I was back there with nothing to worry about except whether or not I was doing what the Lord wanted, good enough to please Him. For anyone that does not understand why Mormons go on missions, it’s hard to explain. But, I can try and explain why I did. In fact, I’m speaking to the Young Women tonight at church regarding this very topic. In our church, mormon missionaries are not paid. … Continue reading
