What are Blogs?

Blogs have only been around for the last little while. They first appeared in 1993, gained a little in popularity in 1997, but in 1999 they really took off. Today, it’s estimated that two new blogs are created every second, with 1.6 million postings a day, which come out to 18.6 posts per second. Yes, I’m sure I contribute to that. . . A blog is an online journal, so to speak. It’s a site where you collect your thoughts and ideas and post them for others to see. Most blogs are informal, while others are professional. Let’s take a … Continue reading

Blogging as a Business, Part Two

If you missed part one, check it out here. So when blogs get large, the owner will bring on guest bloggers and will also intersperse their own blogs throughout, so that the content of the blog isn’t entirely written by someone else. Once a blog has grown even more and is too large for one person to handle, the owner will usually take on a manager or a partner and split the ad revenues with that person, to help handle the amount of work it takes to keep it going. Don’t worry about that just yet – you’ve got a … Continue reading

A Different Mindset

I try very hard to do some sort of Bible reading everyday. Sometimes I read a chapter, sometimes several chapters, and sometimes only a few verses. Many times I find that when I sit down to read the Scriptures I struggle to stay focused on the reading at hand. The reading is not usually difficult, and it is not boring, and it is something that applies to me as I live my daily life. So why do I struggle so much? I know that often times I begin reading the Scriptures with the wrong mindset. What exactly do I mean … Continue reading

All You Need Is 30 Minutes a Day

When it comes to exercise, is more of it better? You may sometimes question whether or not the recommended 30 minutes a day of exercise is beneficial. I know a few people who don’t believe this because they don’t feel satisfied unless they have gotten in 45 to 60 minutes of exercise. For some reason, the 30 minutes can feel like it’s not enough. Well, a small study says differently. Whether you exercise for 30 or 60 minutes a day, you end up losing the same amount of weight. I think it’s the mindset that if you work out more, … Continue reading

Helping Your Toddler Become A Problem Solver

Did you know that one of the best tools that you can give your toddler is the ability to solve problems for himself or herself? It can be frustrating to watch your little boy or girl struggle with something like getting his or her shirt on, or finding the right place for the puzzle piece to fit in. Many of us are quick to rush to the rescue, to help our little one “get it right” either to ease his frustration, or to get her out the door in time. If we are able to step back a little bit … Continue reading

Intentional about Helping Others Succeed

Today is the conclusion to my “Intentional about” series I have been doing here in home business. I end with a secret to success…being intentional about helping others to succeed. I realize that for many people it’s a “dog eat dog” world out there. But I come from a different mindset. I believe that those most likely to succeed are those who help others to. Take the job of a writer. In today’s social media world, you have an opportunity to help others in their success. One of the things you are encouraged to do—which does provide a kickback to … Continue reading

Saving a Marriage

It seems like everywhere I turn lately, there are marriage problems…serious ones. Couples that you would never imagine considering divorce seem to be on that path. I recently met with a woman who had filed for divorce but then stopped it. She is willing, although very reluctantly, to give her husband a chance to work on his issues. They are serious, difficult issues. My heart feels for her. It is painful to see her pain. It would be easy for me to say, “Get out while you can.” But I tend to be of the mindset that you should first … Continue reading

Disagreements in Parenting

One area that is well-known to be a source of contention for many married couples is the raising of the children. Oftentimes couples come from different types of homes and take from that into their own parenting. If the couple has a completely different idea on how to raise the children, this can cause strife that lasts for years. It can also become part of the reason that a marriage falls apart. Surprisingly, this has not been a huge issue for my husband and me. Despite our vastly different upbringing, we have gone into our parenting with the same mindset. … Continue reading
