Here are five tips to help you begin reaching children in your area: 1. Locate a park in your community that has apartment buildings nearby (preferably within walking distance). Parks located near residential developments and trailer parks are also ideal. 2. Canvas the area. Develop … Continue reading

Why Should I Have My Devotions In the Morning?

In our heads, we all know that having personal time alone with God is vital to our Christian life. However, so often life seems to get in the way. Are you having trouble getting your time alone with God and making it count? Consider these reasons for having your devotions earlier in the day. 1. I know how hard it is to get up in the morning. However, the fact remains that for many people, if they don’t get their devotional time in the morning while the kids are still in bed, they won’t get it at all that day. … Continue reading

5 Tips For Having Devotions With Toddlers

Having family devotions with children at any age is a challenge. With young children especially, parents must combat the “wiggle worm” and a short attention span. However, family devotions are vital to the healthy spiritual life of a family. Young children are often taught to pray during family devotions. They learn to ask questions about God and talk about Him openly. Everyone in the family benefits from spending time together around God’s Word. How Important is Children’s Ministry?

Children are our future. They are also the future of the church. Children are important to Jesus as we see from Matthew 18:1-6 and Matthew 19:13-14. And yet, some churches seem to devalue children’s ministry by having poorly trained and inexperienced leaders working in children’s programs, by not taking an active role in training teachers or instituting programs that children do not want to be a part of. Information provided in Southern Cross magazine by Bible League Australia claims that Operation World says ‘every new generation needs to be evangelised afresh or the church soon becomes nominal.’ So to ensure … Continue reading

Evangelism Tools: The Wordless Book

The Wordless Book is an excellent resource for use in witnessing to others, especially children. This book is easy to learn how to use and is very simple to make. All you need to make a wordless book is black, red, white, yellow or gold and green construction paper or poster board and glue. Arrange the paper in the following order: Black, red, white, yellow or gold and green, then simply glue the edges to make a binding. If you prefer you can hole punch the sides and connect them with yarn. Going through each page of the book the … Continue reading

Jesus Had Brothers and Sisters

Do you think Jesus was an only child? The idea that Jesus had no half-brothers or half-sisters is a common misconception. This idea has been spread, in part, because some felt that it was necessary that Mary remain a perpetual virgin. However, this teaching is contrary to the Bible. Several times in the Bible Jesus’ siblings are referred to. In fact, it is very likely that two half-brothers of the Lord were even authors of New Testament books. In Matthew 12:47-49, Mark 3:31-35 and Luke 8:19 a Pharisee informs Jesus that His “mother and brethren” are waiting to speak to … Continue reading

Why Should You Pray?

Many blessings come from being a Christian. One of the richest and most rewarding blessings is being able to approach our God at any time of day or night in prayer. Not only can we come to God and lay our burdens before Him, but the Bible says that He wants us to pray to Him. I Peter 5:7 states that we are supposed to “cast” all of our cares on Him because He cares for us. If we have the weight of a difficult child, a turbulent friendship or even a disagreement with our spouse, God wants us to … Continue reading

My Daughter Has a Toilet Seat Around Her Head, Should I Be Concerned?

So, I was standing at the sink up to my elbows in dishwater mentally congratulating myself on all of my housekeeping and mothering achievements. It was mid-morning, the house was reasonably clean, the bills were already paid and in the mailbox and my two small children were happily playing independently in the living room. “Yes”, I thought, “I’m on top of everything today. Maybe I’ll even get to read a book during naptime,” I mused. My fanciful illusions were abruptly shattered as I heard a squeal and turned to see my twelve-month-old daughter, Evelyn, coming out of the bathroom with … Continue reading

A Child’s Prayer Blooper

Wednesday night at our church is a time of Bible study and prayer. After we spend about twenty minutes in Bible study, the service is opened up to the congregation. People who have needs for prayer will share them with the rest of the church during this time. If someone has a need, but does not want to specify the nature of it, they will say only that they have an “unspoken” prayer request. After we get all of the prayer requests, we pray together either as a church, as families, or with prayer partners. On one such evening my … Continue reading

“You’re Not Still Nursing Her, Are You?”

Immediately after church last week a dear older woman walked up to me and said, “You’re not still nursing her, are you?” Her tone was full of accusation and condemnation and her opinion was clear: If I was still putting my fourteen-month-old daughter to breast, I was completely deranged and likely damaging my daughter as well. As a breastfeeding advocate, I should have confidently replied, “Yes, and I’m proud of it because it’s the best thing for my baby.” Instead, I found myself completely defensive. I actually felt as though nursing my daughter at her age might be wrong. I … Continue reading
